My first Artist’s Date

Well this is my first week following the 12 week program in Julia Cameron’s book the Artist’s Way.   I am already thinking about at my photography differently.  Just by taking my camera everywhere with me I find that I am noticing the little things around me more.   

With my camera in hand and the challenge of my first Artist’s Date in my head  I set out to shoot things that I don’t normally shoot.  Like my home and garden strangely enough.  Initially I thought there wasn’t anything that exciting to photograph until I started looking at things from a different perspective.     It was when I walked out the front to check the letterbox, I noticed our neighbour’s gorgeous wisteria.   I have walked out to this letterbox everyday for the past 7 years and have never really stopped and thought about how gorgeous the wisteria looked twisting around her front fence.   This is my favorite image from those that I took this afternoon.



As I mentioned in a previous post I also decided to experiment a little more  in Photoshop to see how this affects my style of photography.  Normally I try and keep the processing of my images pretty simple and true to the shot I have taken.  This time I decided that this wisteria against the picket fence had a bit of an old-world feel about it.  Perfect for vintage style processing.  Normally when I look at vintage images they don’t appeal to my personal taste.   I think this may be because most seem to have an apricot or orange tint to them and I really don’t like apricot as a colour!  Anyway, for this image I decided to add some texture, grain and pop the colour a little and I now am pretty happy how this shot looks.   What I have learned from this week’s Artist’s Date  is that I do love a vintage style shot but just not the apricot toned ones 🙂
