A friend of mine asked me the other day why most of the images I post on my blog are close up portraits of children’s faces, and asked why I favour these type of shots. You know what, I have never even thought about it before. I didn’t even realise it was the case. When posting images on my blog I usually just pick a few images from the particular session that I like the best. The other day during a conversation with Wendy, my photography mentor we were talking about what type of images we like to take and Wendy mentioned to me that she thought my style was ‘classic children’s portraiture’ as she noticed that I like close up shots of children/people’s faces that really feature their eyes. Again I had never really thought about it. But now that I think about it, I do! I really believe that a person’s eyes are the windows to their soul and that children’s eyes in particular are just so expressive and full of life. This photo of Aaron’s eyes below are so mischievous aren’t they? He was having fun playing around and being cheeky, and it shows. Just look at those eyes.
This certainly doesn’t mean that I will only shooting close ups from here on in, but I do have to admit I do have a bit a soft spot for a good close up and some sparkly eyes.
