Late last year I decided to join our local camera club in Williamstown. I figured that being a member of a camera club would be a great way to meet like minded people who love photography like I do. It is also a good way to learn new techniques and all about the latest gear available. That part isn’t that great because I always find something that I ‘need’ to buy 😉 These days Steve’s eyes just glaze over when I talk cameras and lenses so imagine how good it is to be in a group with other people who can talk about photography for hours like me. The camera club organisers are always looking for fun things for the members to do and spend a lot of their personal time organising these events. The camera club is made up of people of all different ages and different skill levels. The thing that really surprised me when I joined was how much the more experienced members really enjoy helping the new member’s and people who are just starting out with their photography journey. They are very generous with their time and their knowledge.
Yesterday they organised a session at the Newport Railway Yards in Williamstown. I have to admit I wasn’t feeling up to participating due to my recent surgery but I wanted to attend the session as the thought of taking photos down amongst the old trains etc really appealed to me. Once I got there I realised that I wasn’t feeling as well as I thought initially and I just took a couple of quick portrait snaps of one of the models.
One thing that came out of attending this session in Newport. I now want a 70-200 f2.8 lens. Ouch!
