What I am up to

Its been a while…

Well it’s been quite a while since I last posted anything on my blog.   Mainly because I have been  updating the look of the website/blog as well as  looking for a new job.   My photography took a backward step during this time as I have been doing a lot of research on WordPress and website development.    I am pleased to say that I have now found a job that I am really enjoying and have more time to focus on my photography again.

Over the past few months I started work on a personal photography project to encourage me to pick up my camera and use it each day.  The project started out as a way of documenting the special things I have collected over my life that mean a lot to me.   These included things of my mum’s, heirlooms passed down from Steve’s family and gifts from special friends dating back many years.   What I found while taking these images was that I loved the intricate details of the items and I found myself wanting to take closer macro shots to capture those things that sometimes get missed when you just take a passing glance at an object.   During this project I found myself looking at things around me much more closely especially the flowers in my garden.  I had never really been into macro photography before but I now find it so rewarding and I don’t have too look far to find a suitable subject.

This form of photography has also lead to me using textures and tone overlays in Photoshop to create a more artistic feel to my floral work.   The image of the hellebores below is one of my first attempts and I just love it.  The soft pastel colour pallet and the textures that I have applied make this look like a painting.  Just the look I intended 🙂
