I have to admit I have a secret. Well it isn’t really a secret to those who know me well 🙂 I am Julie Cannon and I am a Francophile ( a person that loves all things French). I don’t know when and why this obsession started but ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of going to Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower. It wasn’t until 2007 that I finally got the chance to visit France and live out my childhood dream. It was during that visit to France that everything changed for me. I got engaged to my gorgeous Steve and my love of photography began.
I often thought about taking photography courses over the years but never did anything about it. It was while I was in Paris that very first time that I really began to look at things from a different perspective. I noticed the textures and the intricate details of the buildings and probably for the first time ever thought about how the light conditions affected my photographs. I found myself photographing the beautiful details rather than taking photos of the whole building. I only had a point and shoot camera and I was determined that I wanted to take at least one great shot of Paris that I could get printed and put on the wall at home. Can you believe when I went to the Eiffel Tower for the first time I walked around and around the base of it and I took 82 shots. Yes I am not exaggerating. When I got home from that holiday and looked at my photos and there were a couple of good ones but they were mainly just happy snaps. But I did manage to take one of the Eiffel Tower and get it printed to put on our wall at home.
Well guess what! I am going to be spending Christmas in Paris this year ‘happy dance – happy dance’. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am. Steve’s gorgeous daughter Simone is marrying James in Paris on the 4th January and we have decided to go over a little earlier so we can spend Christmas day in Paris before the wedding. The weather has been really cold – I mean really cold but I will not be deterred. I am going to enjoy every wonderful minute of the experience.
Below is my very first photo of the Eiffel Tower. Not so great I know, but the memories of that day are priceless. Can’t wait to photograph it properly this time!
