The day we had all been looking forward to arrived and it was raining! Not just raining lightly, the heavens had opened and it really looked like it had set in for the day. I sent a text message to Paul to see how he was feeling. His response back was cool and calm. “It will clear up after this rain passes” How was that for confidence! I could tell Paul wasn’t about to let anything ruin this special day. That is just what Paul is like. He has the most lovely positive personality. Well, he was right, by the time we arrived at the Botanical Gardens the rain had stopped and it was actually quite warm. Then just as Melinda was about to walk down the isle the clouds parted and beautiful rays of sunshine appeared. It was like it was always meant to be. The sun stayed out until their ceremony finished. After the ceremony the weather stayed clear long enough for their wedding photographs to be taken in the gardens. Then just as the photography session was about to conclude, Melbourne was hit with a huge thunderstorm! It was timed perfectly.
The shots below are just a few snap shots I took along the way in my official capacity as “Aunty”. Whilst I was snapping away I marvelled at how easy the official photographer made it look as he juggled between the two cameras he was using. To the untrained eye he looked like he was just pointing and shooting with ease. Watching him I knew that all the time that he looked like he was pointing and shooting he was actually watching the light and playing to keep his exposures correct. It was an extremely difficult day for photography as although it seemed quite cloudy the light was extremely bright. As the photographer went about documenting Paul and Melinda’s very special day I couldn’t help but think what a huge responsibility you have when you are ‘the’ wedding photographer. I know for certain that wedding photography is not something that I am planning to include in my photography journey. I was stressing out enough being the ‘Aunty’ with the camera. I can’t wait to see the official photos.
